Outreach to 12 groups: home-based care, HIV updates and netball

Women’s support groups

MASYAP visited 12 groups in Thyolo and Blantyre to follow up on progress, train members in home-based care and share the latest on HIV/AIDS.

MASYAP visited 12 support groups across Thyolo and Blantyre districts to meet members, check on their progress and offer guidance.

What the visits aimed to do

  1. Follow up on progress: we reviewed members’ personal and group goals and gave encouragement and advice.
  2. Teach home-based care: members were trained in caring for people living with HIV/AIDS at home.
  3. Share the latest on HIV/AIDS: including prevention, treatment options, regular testing and the importance of taking medication as prescribed.

Highlights

  • Microfinance: we visited members on the Murabaha programme to check on their businesses and offer advice.
  • Youth: alongside life skills and health information, we introduced netball to keep girls active and build teamwork, discipline and friendship.
  • Women: women’s groups received health updates and hygiene training, so they can lead the way to healthier homes and communities.
