MASYAP encourages all of its members, and the wider community, to know their HIV status. Early diagnosis means women and children can start antiretroviral treatment in time, and it saves lives.
Our testing service
Working with the Blantyre District Health Office, MASYAP offers HIV testing services (HTS) in two ways:
- At our office: anyone can come to the MASYAP office in Limbe for confidential counselling and testing.
- In the community: our team brings testing to support groups and community sites, reaching people who cannot easily get to a health facility.
Every test includes counselling before and after. Anyone who tests positive is referred straight away to a government health facility to start treatment. We also offer screening for syphilis and hepatitis B, HIV self-test kits, condoms, and information on PrEP and PEP.
Our history
MASYAP first ran an HIV testing service with an on-site counsellor approved by the District Health Office, offering testing twice a week. We also took testing to districts beyond the office and to events such as the Limbe Police candlelight memorial and World AIDS Day. After a four-year break caused by lack of funding, testing resumed in May 2021.
Working towards 95-95-95
Our testing supports Malawi’s efforts to reach the UNAIDS targets: 95% of people living with HIV knowing their status, 95% of them on treatment, and 95% of those on treatment with a suppressed viral load.
