HIV outreach for women and young women, the most at risk
MASYAP’s April outreach focused on women and girls aged 13 to 24, who face the highest risk of HIV.
MASYAP ran outreach sessions for women’s and youth groups, who remain highly vulnerable to HIV and AIDS.
Women face a higher biological risk of HIV, made worse by gender inequality, economic dependence and gender-based violence. Young women aged 13 to 24 are particularly affected, because of limited access to sexual and reproductive health information and greater exposure to risky situations.
What the outreach achieved
- Greater awareness of how HIV is transmitted and prevented
- Encouragement of safer practices and of seeking health care
- More members accessing HIV testing and support services
