December 2024 youth camp welcomes 150 girls
Planned for 100, MASYAP’s youth camp welcomed 150 girls for HIV education, life skills and career inspiration during the risky festive season.
In December 2024, MASYAP held a youth camp for girls. It was planned for 100 participants but welcomed 150.
The festive season can bring added risks for girls, with more social activity and peer pressure. The camp offered a safe, structured place to learn, make friends and grow.
What the girls did
- HIV prevention: interactive sessions on how HIV and other sexually transmitted infections spread, how to prevent them and why regular testing matters.
- Life skills: activities to build decision-making, communication and leadership skills, and confidence.
- Career inspiration: women from a range of professions shared their experience and encouraged the girls to aim high.
- Positive choices: sessions on self-discipline, respect for themselves and others, and making good choices.
- Team building: group activities that strengthened friendships and support networks.
