From school fees to a nursing diploma: Aisha Billy graduates
Aisha Billy, supported by MASYAP from secondary school to college, now holds a diploma in nursing and midwifery.
Aisha Billy, from the Bangwe Mvula MASYAP support group in Blantyre, now holds a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (Technician) from St Joseph’s College of Health Sciences, where she studied from October 2019 to April 2023.
Aisha was supported by MASYAP’s school fees programme from secondary school all the way through to tertiary education.
About the programme
The bursary scheme aims to improve access to secondary education for vulnerable but gifted students, and so improve their life chances. There are currently 30 students on the programme, working hard towards a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
Youth Coordinator Fatima Hassan said Aisha’s graduation has motivated other members to work even harder, and shown them that the MSCE exams need not be the end of the road. Girls should aim to go further with their studies.
