Chiwembe youth group hosts a get-together on girls’ rights
Chiwembe brought together eight youth groups to talk about the right to education and to wear the hijab at school.
The Chiwembe MASYAP youth group brought together eight neighbouring support groups for a get-together to share experiences.
The event was prompted by the discrimination that girls who wear the hijab face at school and in their communities. It encouraged the girls to stand up for their rights as Muslims, including the right to education and the right to wear the hijab at school.
The girls also discussed a lack of guidance: many have too little time for Islamic studies because their timetables clash with those of their secular schools.
